Did You Know: Black history is American history?

Having grown-up during the civil rights era, Ms. Ashley has witnessed first-hand the invaluable role of strong traditional families, and how the family is; 1) an essential component in the character development and civic maturation of our youth; 2) the building block for strong neighborhoods and schools; and 3) the chief instrument for combatting a growing social ambivalence to crime and social irresponsibility. She continues to be both a voice and advocate for All youth, with emphasis on Black American youth, which have been decimated by the breakdown of the family unit. She strives to provide pride in history, with a strong sense of purpose.

Ms. Ashley is an advocate for youth and families. She is a U.S.A.F.R. Veteran and has a Bpublican Womenachelor of Science Degree. Ms. Ashley grew up as a “military brat”, with her own military service having been inspired by her father, who is an Air Force retiree, after serving over twenty years. Similarly, Ms. Ashley also served in the United States Air Force Reserves and was Honorably discharged. Her early childhood attachment and affiliation with the military lifestyle provided an opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and abroad. These early formative years and associated experiences have helped to shape and fashion her personal perspectives and insight. Her life’s journey has furthermore greatly contributed to her ability to provoke political introspection and encouragement to people of all races, religions, and nationalities.

In her professional career, Ms. Ashley has been a staff and independent Real Estate Appraiser for over four decades. Her personal life is punctuated by her commitment to family, church, and community, with a focus and advocacy for youth and their personal development. She is directly involved and maintains an active presence in the lives of youth, in particular, Black American males—having cofounded a youth football league which promoted discipline, responsibility, and needed social structure; by conducting seminars and instructional forums that identified pathways and strategies which emphasized athletic and academic preparatory requirements for college and career bound athletes. Through the church where she serves as a youth mentor, and counselor she gives impressionable young lives a sense of direction and spirituality.
